JAPAN PORTS
Kobe, Japan
We had taken a group tour from the Diamond Princess to go to Kobe, The Sake Brewery Museum, and Mt Rokko. There is a 2200 year tradition of rice wine. When you visit the Kobe Sake Museum, you will notice the scent of wood and straw. The sake brewery is 2 floors and it is full of still demonstrations throughout the museum. There is a video to watch, but it was not in English.
Kagoshima, Japan
If you really want to save some money and see a lot, then you should consider purchasing the Kagoshima CUTE pass. It will get you on unlimited rides on modes of transportation including the Sakurajima Ferry (which we highly recommend), buses and street cars. It is easy to purchase (we purchased ours at the Sakurajima Port Ferry Terminal), but you can purchase them directly from the streetcar driver if available.
It is about a half hour walk to get to the nearest streetcar from the cruise terminal port, but once you are on the streetcar, it is relatively easy to find your way around. We got off at Asahidori Station, and walked around the area of the Kagoshima City Aquarium.
Hiroshima, Japan
Really walkable to the train station. Takes less than 40 minutes.
The Holland America Westerdam parked in a very industrial spot. We walked for about 45 minutes to get to the train station. Please check out our pictures as they include views of some of the city streets that we walked through on our way to the train station.
