One of the things that we look forward to, is receiving onboard cruise credits, where we are are given spending money to apply to our ship board account.

I am talking about the Carnival Corporation Shareholder Benefit.

"The Carnival Corporation Shareholder Benefit is a program that rewards shareholders of Carnival Corporation, who travel with their cruise lines.

Carnival Corporation cruise lines include: Carnival, Princess, Holland America, Costa Cruises, P & O, Cunard, Seabourn and Aida.

What are Onboard Cruise Credits and How Many Do You Get?

So, what exactly are onboard credits and how many do you get?

1. Onboard Credits:

Shareholders receive onboard credits when booking a cruise with any of the Carnival Corporation brands mentioned above. These credits can be used for various onboard expenses, such as excursions, spa treatments, specialty dining, purchasing in the onboard shops, or even as spending money in the casino.

2. How Much Onboard Credit do you get?

Each cruise is worth a different amount of onboard credits. It depends upon the length of your cruise, and whether your ship is considered a North America Brand, A Continental Europe Brand, a United Kingdom Brand, or an Australian Brand. Examples in this blog are based on the North American Brands.

Sailings that are 14 days or longer will earn you $250 US dollars per CABIN on a North American Brand Cruise such as Carnival, Princess, Holland, Seabourn, Cunard or Costa.

Sailings that are 7-13 days would earn you $100 US dollars per CABIN

Sailings that are less than 6 days would earn you $50 US dollars per CABIN.

If the ship is considered a North American Sailing, your credit will be in US dollars. So, for example, if you are Canadian, your ship credit will still be in US Dollars.

How do you get these benefits?

So, How do you get these benefits?

The first thing that you need to do is purchase 100 shares of Carnival Corporation Stock.

It is called: CCL on the stock exchange.

You do not need to purchase any more than 100.

Please also keep in mind that the benefit can only be applied to one account per stateroom. So, for example, if you are a couple, and you always travel in the same room together, only ONE of you will get the shareholder benefit. Not both.

It is really easy to purchase shares. In fact, all I did was log on into my own regular bank account and logged in under "direct investing", and followed the instructions on how to purchase 100 shares in CCL.

Another thing to point out is that you have to hold the Shares in Your Name: It's important to ensure that the shares are registered in your name rather than held in a brokerage account, as this is a common requirement for eligibility.

Only one member in your travel group can apply their shares benefit to their booking.

How to get the onboard cruise credits

Once you own your shares and have a booking number for your upcoming cruise, then you need to write an email, fax or snail mail to the company that you are sailing with (like Carnival, Princess, Holland America, Costa, Cunard, or P and O, Seabourn or Aida; and then let them know your booking number, your legal name, the name of your ship, the ship sailing date, your own mailing address, and attach proof of owning your 100 shares of the Carnival Shares.

You will receive your onboard shareholder credit when you arrive on your cruise.

You need to follow these instructions at LEAST 3 weeks prior to your sailing date, or you may not get your benefit in time.

In conclusion

In conclusion, the Carnival Corporation Shareholder Benefit is a great way for shareholders to get a few extra spending dollars.

Our cruises have given us $50, $100, and $250 per cruise with the Carnival brand, and we have definitely got our money back at this point. We bought our shares when it was $18 per share. This means we paid $1800 American dollars when we purchased. At the time of writing this blog, the shares are approximately $12 per share!

We have already received back more than $1800 US dollars from all of the cruises that we have been on. Every cruise that we take from now on, is just a bonus in credit as far as we are concerned!
